Buying Your Dehumidifier – Helpful Tips

Dehumidifiers exist to reduce the humidity levels in the atmosphere – basically, to dry up the air. They are useful in regions where an overly high concentration of water vapour in the air proves problematic in terms of comfortable breathing, as well as increases the negative effects of illnesses. Here are some tips to consider when buying a dehumidifier:

  • Start with the right size – similar to when you buy a humidifier, dehumidifiers come in different sizes, and the size of the room is going to decide the size of the device. Measure the size of the room you will be planning to keep the dehumidifier Sydney in before you head out to the shop, and check the size list to find the right device for you – or ask the sales agent for more information. Also keep in mind that the size of the dehumidifier can reduce or increase the time it needs to do its job – a small room with a large dehumidifier, for example, will see its moisture removed far more quickly than with an average-sized device. This point is helpful when it comes to rooms that are naturally more prone to moisture, such as the basement of a house.
  • Capacity matters – the size is not the only thing you need to be worrying about. As opposed to humidifiers, which add moisture to the air, the dehumidifier removes moisture from the air, which basically means the device will fill up with water over time as it operates in the room. Depending on where you live and the seasonal climate, the humidity levels will naturally vary. Make sure to buy a dehumidifier that has the right capacity for your needs (e.g. an average room that is very damp would need a device with a capacity around forty-five pints). Also keep in mind, a larger capacity basically translates to a less frequent need to remove water from the device.
  • Buy special dehumidifiers if necessary – when it comes to rooms or areas that are continuously moist as a result of a water body or source within them, the regular dehumidifier is simply not enough to do the job. For example, bathrooms, indoor swimming pools, or spa areas will need special dehumidifiers that are built with larger capacities and sizes. To find what exactly fits your need, make sure to consult the sales agents at the shop, or inquire online from manufacturers or suppliers.
  • Portable models – your traditional dehumidifier is permanently fitted to a room, but nowadays, you can also find portable versions. If you are planning to frequently move your dehumidifier from room to room, it might make more sense to buy a portable model instead.
